My coaching philosophy is to help each athlete develop self confidence, dedication, and both mental and physical strength. I believe it is important for triathletes to understand that training does not stop with the press of a reset button on a watch. Unfortunately, our bodies do not have a start/stop button. Training like an athlete should lead to living, eating, and sleeping like an athlete. Athletes are finely tuned machines from head to toe and if they expect to perform, they must be properly developed and maintained. The better each athlete understands their body and how it works and responds, the easier it is to develop and maintain the machine they want it to be. It is important for athletes to understand their goals, expectations, and the path that leads the way. My hope for each athlete I encounter is for them to embrace a healthier lifestyle, sense of accomplishment, and a realization that the sky is the limit. Success has always been a challenge to define when there is a podium at the end of every race. While the podium is an amazing place to be, it does not define success. Success is about setting goals and achieving them. It is about surpassing ones highest expectations. It’s about going out there and truly leaving it all on the course. It’s about no regrets. In order to achieve success every triathlete needs balance…of personal life, work life, aerobic training, strength training, stretching, tapering, recovering, and rest. Each athlete must focus on the task at hand, when training, focus on training, let this be a time to set everything else aside. When not training, enjoy it and do not fret over how to fit in the next workout. Set a schedule and stick to it. If a workout is missed, pick right back up the next day. It is important to realize not everything is perfect, there will be good days and bad days. Athletes must accept this and stay present at all times. We all have the potential to do great things…and my ultimate goal is to help each athlete find this potential by dialing into themselves and evaluating their body from within.
