“Start Your Race Right!” – The Best Pre-Race Breakfast Ideas for Runners

You have trained your body for several weeks to get you ready for this day, race day! Now, what should you eat before going to the race? These are some suggestions that we can implement during your training; especially, before your long runs so when Race Day comes you know your how your body is going to react to your morning fuel.

1. Complex Carbs – Eating complex carbohydrates such as whole grain cereals, oatmeal and fruit can provide your body with energy to help you last until the finish line.

2. Protein – Include lean proteins such as eggs, nuts or low-fat yogurt in your pre-race breakfast to help keep your muscles strong.

3. Healthy Fats – Good fats like avocado, olive oil and nuts are important for providing energy and fuel to power your run.

4. Hydration – Make sure you’re hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day leading up to the race and in the morning before it starts.

5. Have Fun – Don’t forget to enjoy your pre-race meal! It’s important to eat something that you know and love, so make it a fun experience.
